Annual police complaints statistics

Each year since 2004/05 the IPCC has published statistics on complaints recorded by police forces in England and Wales. Prior to 2004/05, these statistics were published by the Home Office.

Our complaints statistics reports include information about the number and type of complaints made by members of the public. They also set out how these complaints were subsequently dealt with and include demographic data about who complained and who was subject to a complaint.

Quarterly individual police force reports

While the IPCC is responsible for producing an annual report on police complaints statistics, it is also useful to see more frequent information about police complaints at a local level.

Since April 2009, the IPCC has collected data from police forces after the end of each quarter. This data is compiled into a report called a ‘Police complaints information bulletin’.

The latest bulletins are published on the IPCC's website.
