What can I complain about?

In the case where UKBA officers, or certain contracted staff  employed by UKBA carried out an immigration or asylum function, the IPCC can only oversee complaints that involve both:

• a serious allegation about the conduct of a member of UKBA staff or relevant contracted staff employed by UKBA
• the exercise of police-like powers

Serious allegations and police-like powers are defined below.

However, the IPCC can oversee serious matters relating to UKBA staff  or relevant contracted staff employed by UKBA when they have carried out customs functions regardless of whether or not they have exercised a police-like power.
