Amerdeep Somal

Amerdeep Somal is a lawyer and has been a criminal defence advocate and worked at the Crown Prosecution Service where her last appointment was Acting Head of the Criminal Justice Unit in Nottinghamshire.. Amerdeep has received several awards for her work in tackling domestic violence, including one for the Attorney General for confronting the particular challenges affecting Asian communities in dealing with domestic violence and for her commitment to diversity. Amerdeep has spoken both nationally and internationally on domestic violence and at Westminster and Downing Street. Amerdeep has been a Non-Executive Director of Roshni (Nottingham Asian Women's Aid), a charity supporting victims and children of domestic violence. Amerdeep is an accredited mediator.

Amerdeep is a Judge of the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal and former Chair of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal.

Amerdeep has led the Commission's work into the formal CRE investigation following the "Secret Policeman" documentary that exposed racism in police training schools and has contributed to the Home Office Review into the Police Discipline System. She has also led the Commission's response to the revised ACPO guidance on investigating domestic violence and child sexual abuse.
