Being the subject of a complaint as a police officer
Equality and Human Rights is one of the IPCC's core values. A police officer against
whom an allegation is made can be sure that we will act quickly, impartially and fairly. The IPCC is
working with the police to shift the culture of the police complaints system to a 'learning' culture.
Both the IPCC and the police force have a duty to keep the officer who is subject
to a complaint or allegation of misconduct informed at appropriate points in the investigation of progress.
Local Resolution
The Local resoultion process is a new way of resolving complaints and is designed
to provide an opportunity to respond quickly to complaints at local level. Local resoultion can
provide an opportunity for an officer to explain why they took particular action.
The Statutory Guidance details more about this process.
The IPCC has, in partnership with the Police Federation developed
a leaflet for police officers about the new system.
