Gender Equality Scheme
Under the Equality Act 2006, all public bodies (including the IPCC) are subject to the ‘Gender Equality Duty’.
This duty places a legal obligation on the IPCC to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment, and
- Promote equality of opportunity between men and women, including those who are transgender.
To show how the IPCC intends to meet these goals, it must produce a Gender Equality Scheme in consultation with staff and stakeholders identifying gender equality goals and how these will be met. This scheme must be monitored annually and reviewed at least every three years.
The Gender Equality duty applies to the IPCC as an employer and as a service provider in that it must have due regard to equality of access and service provision for all complainants.
The IPCC Gender Equality Scheme (pdf 121k) was published on 30th April 2007.
Our intention is to continually improve the scheme based on your feedback and what we find out about actually using the scheme. We welcome scrutiny and comments – please challenge us to do better and tell us where we are getting it right, by emailing us at diversity@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk
