PR 1592 GMP officer summonsed to face dangerous driving charges
A Greater Manchester Police officer has been summonsed to face two charges of dangerous driving following an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation.
Pc Ian Bruce, 33, who was based in the Tactical Vehicle Crimes Unit in Eccles at the time of the incident in August 2008, will appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court on 21 August 2009.
The charges relate to incidents on 1 August 2008 during the pursuit of Alan Stuart Long by Greater Manchester Police officers. Mr Long was riding a motorcycle and failed to stop for police officers before he was in collision with a VW Polo at the junction of Stamford Road and Rassbottom Street in Stalybridge. Mr Long died as a result of his injuries the following day.
The IPCC independently investigated the incident.
