The Independent Police Complaints Commission is managing an investigation into a road traffic incident on Merseyside in which two men were seriously injured.
The men, both aged 19, were on a motorcycle which had been stolen on 19 January 2010. A fully marked Merseyside Police car spotted the motorcycle on Longmoor Lane, Aintree, at approximately 12:40am on 21 January.
There was a short pursuit which ended when the motorcycle went out of control at the junction of Stopgate Lane and Long Lane. The two men sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The incident was referred to the IPCC who will now manage an investigation by Merseyside Police’s professional Standards Department.
Ms Naseem Malik, IPCC Commissioner for the North West, said: “The investigation will determine whether the pursuit was conducted in accordance will Merseyide Police’s policies and procedures. “
