IPCC Independent Investigation into Edgware Fatal Shooting Draws to a Close
The IPCC independent investigation into the fatal shooting of Azelle Rodney in Burnt Oak, Edgware, London, on 30 April is drawing to a close as the investigation report was submitted to Commissioner John Wadham today.
IPCC deputy chair Mr Wadham said: I hope to conclude my part of this process as quickly as possible and I explained this to Mr Rodney’s family at a meeting this morning.
I will now be considering whether or not to submit the investigation report to the Crown Prosecution Service.”
Mr Rodney, aged 24, lived in the West London area. He was in a silver Golf car outside the Railway Tavern on Hale Lane, Burnt Oak, Edgware, and was a rear seat passenger of a vehicle stopped by police at around 8pm as part of a pre-planned operation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Directorate and SO19 (now called CO19).
Two other occupants of the car were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and are currently appearing in court.
The inquiry was conducted by IPCC senior investigator Simon Cousins with a team that included two deputy senior investigators and 12 investigators backed up by caseworkers and HOLMES, the Home Office large and major enquiry system, operators. The IPCC issued two separate witness appeals and conducted door-to-door enquiries.
