Misconduct hearing following investigation into firearms incident - Thames Valley

Following an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)  independent  investigation into the wounding of a police staff worker during a firearms awareness training session in May 2007, Thames Valley Police are to pursue a misconduct hearing against an officer.

The man was wounded in the torso when a bullet was discharged during the training session at police premises at Kidlington, Oxfordshire, on 30 May 2007. The wounded man was among 11 members of police staff attending the session.

Following the incident, Thames Valley Police immediately referred the matter to the IPCC, which launched an investigation. The findings of the investigation were passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider  in October 2007 and, in January 2008,  the CPS decided  that the Thames Valley Police Officer would not face criminal charges.

The file was then passed to Thames Valley Police who have now taken the decision to hold a misconduct hearing, on a date to be fixed.

The Health and Safety Executive is continuing its separate investigation into possible contraventions of health and safety at work legislation.
