Sussex police officer arrested following Gatwick road crash

A Sussex police officer was arrested by Hampshire constabulary on Saturday January 29 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and grevious bodily harm following a fatal crash between a marked police vehicle and a Ford Focus at the junction of Gatwick road and Beehive Ring Road, Crawley on Saturday January 22.

Karen Stagg (47) the driver of the Focus, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the collision

Her 12 year old son, who was a passenger in the Focus at that time sustained serious injuries as a result.

The officer has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is managing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, which is being carried out by Hampshire Constabulary.
