Independent Police Complaints Commission summonses Metropolitan Police officer

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has summonsed a Metropolitan Police Service officer for assault causing actual bodily harm.

The summons arises from the disturbances in Parliament Square, outside the Houses of Parliament, on 15 September 2004.

PC Barry Jenkins has been summonsed to appear at Bow Street Magistrates' Court on 17 November.

  • The IPCC is the body with overall responsibility for the police complaints system in England and Wales. It has the task of increasing public confidence in the system and aims to make complaints investigations more open, timely, proportionate and fair. The 17 IPCC Commissioners guarantee the independence of the IPCC and by law can never have served as police officers.
